HEAD START WORKS!

Head Start is the nation’s premier early childhood program.  Head Start has served millions of children and families since 1965.  Over 20,000 Head Start programs are administered by Public Schools, Non-Profit Community Organizations, County/Parish governments, American Indian Tribes or Councils, Colleges or Universities, Hospitals, and other local institutions focused on problem solving and serving.  Head Start’s focus is providing comprehensive services for America's low-income, pre-school children from birth to five. Head Start plays a major role in focusing attention on the importance of early childhood development and education.  Parental involvement in all Head Start programs coupled with outreach and training activities assist with parenting skills and knowledge of child development.  For more information see: http://eclkc.ohs.acf.hhs.gov/hslc
